VHS
/ S-VHS / VHS-C |
 |
By far
the most commonly used videotape format in the 1980's
and 90's, VHS stands
for Video Home System.
|
|
BetaMax |
 |
Betamax, the first home videotape format,
was introduced by Sony in 1975 but eventually lost out
to the VHS format. |
|
Hi-8 /
Video8 |
 |
Hi-8
and
Video8 are used in
camcorders. They cannot be viewed in VHS players,
and must be played in the camcorder (which can then be attached to a TV). |
|
Mini DV |
 |
Mini DV
tapes
store video digitally and are the smallest of all video
formats. |
|
Digital8 |
 |
Digital8
uses the same media as Hi-8 and
Video8. However, unlike Hi-8 and Video8, Digital8 stores
footage
digital format rather than analog. |
